FAQ
Can I just make this at home?
Yes. We’re basically doing the same thing: real ingredients, measured, logged, and pressure-canned for consistency and safety.
How long can it be stored?
Unopened jars: up to 12 months in a cool, dark place.
Once opened: refrigerate and feed within 3–5 days.
How much nutrition is lost in the canning process?
We estimate a 20–30% nutrient loss from pressure canning. Recipes and labels are built with that in mind.
Can I buy it freshly cooked (not pressure-canned)?
Yes. Call or text and we can freeze or refrigerate your order without pressure-cooking it. Shelf life will be shorter, and it must stay refrigerated or frozen.
Do you ship?
Right now we only do local pickup and delivery around Jacksonville, NC. Shipping and subscriptions are coming soon.
Is there a subscription option?
Not yet. It’s on the roadmap. Get in now and you’ll probably end up on the “founding pack” list when subscriptions go live.
How do I pay?
Right now we keep it simple: you place an order, we confirm details, then email you a PayPal invoice. You can pay that with most major cards, Apple Pay, or your PayPal balance. Cash at pickup and Venmo are also options if you’d rather keep it old-school.

What we're actually trying to build
ERGOS exists to do two things at the same time: make a legitimately good dog food that pays for itself, and see how far we can push a small, local ecosystem in Eastern North Carolina.
First, yes—this is a business. The goal is profit, because profit keeps the lights on, the jars filled, and the humans employed. But if we're going to build something that lasts, it should make life a little better for more than just one dog and one bank account.
ENC is basically a giant sandbox. If it turns out we can eventually turn local sand into our own glass, we'll chase that. Until then, we do what we can:
- Use glass instead of disposable plastic where we can.
- Take jars back, clean them, and refill them—so the container lives a long life.
- Keep the “footprint” mostly local: jars, water, food, jobs, and money cycling inside ENC as much as possible.
A big part of that is where the ingredients come from. As we grow, the intent is to source as much as we reasonably can from ENC farmers and producers—chicken, pork, eggs, seasonal vegetables, and oils when it makes sense. We won't hit 100% overnight, but the direction of travel is clear: more local farms, fewer anonymous supply chains.
We also want to feed more than just personal pets. As we grow, the plan is to work with local shelters and rescues, test recipes in the real world, and get quality food into bowls that usually get whatever is donated.
If traction happens, this stops being a one-person kitchen project and turns into jobs: people cooking, canning, driving, delivering, cleaning jars, and running operations here in ENC. More momentum means more reasons to invest in good dog spaces—better parks, better trails, and more support for dogs working as end-of-life or disability companions.
Big picture: real food for dogs pays the bills. The bills pay for ingredients from ENC farms, experiments in lower-waste packaging, and small, steady upgrades to make this corner of North Carolina a little more self-sustaining, a little less plastic-heavy, and a little more dog-and-human friendly.
